... a 'feel good' environment
Erfurt has developed KlimaTec into a versatile interior wall range that decorators can use to effectively reduce their customers' energy consumption, maintain air humidity at a healthy level and refurbish any damage caused by mould. The Wuppertal-based company now supplies solutions to problems in different applications with its range of insulating plaster, insulating panels, energy-saving wall covering and matching system adhesives. The range also focuses on mould remediation and mould prevention alongside energy-savings. The dew point values of the surface temperatures measured on the wall are critical when selecting the most appropriate product from the Klima-Tec range. If surface temperatures of the wall measured using a thermal imaging camera are equal to or higher than the figures on the table, decorators should use KlimvaVlies KV 600, whereas if surface temperature are below these figures, they should use KP 2500+ insulating panels. Erfurt has also developed DP 6 insulation plaster specifically for the remediation of plaster affected by mould. Permeable paint, wall coverings or interior plaster can then be applied to any new wall surface created in this way, irrespective of whether insulating panels, insulating plaster or KlimaVlies are used.
Inadequate exterior wall insulation or a combination of construction materials with different levels of thermal conductivity can cause low surface temperatures on the interiors of walls. This often results in long, and thus also expensive heating-up phases, as well as a heightened risk of condensing moisture in the air leading to incidence of mould. With KlimaTec, Erfurt has developed an interior wall system composed of different products designed to remedy these problems simply and effectively. Walls and ceilings to which KlimaTec KV 600, DP 6 insulating plaster, KP 2500+ climate panels or LP 1000+ soffit panels have been applied, are considerably slower at transmitting heat to the cold masonry. The sluggish "reservoir of cold" formed by the exterior wall is "disconnected" from the living space, so that the maximum amount of thermal energy can be used to heat up the room air. The Erfurt KlimaTec system ensures fast, demand-led and thus also energy-saving heating. This is of particular interest in residential properties, where composite thermal insulation systems are often not feasible.
The measured surface temperatures of the walls determine whether non-woven wallpaper or panels should be used. KlimaVlies KV 600 is ideal if the temperatures are equal to or higher than the figures on the dew point table, causing coated walls to radiate around 80 percent of thermal energy back into the room, which can then be used immediately to rapidly heat up the room. If the surface temperatures of the walls are lower than the figures on the tables, permeable KP 2500+ insulating panels provide the best results.
This non-woven wall covering is intended rather for rooms that are used intermittently, like studies, guest rooms or the living rooms of working people who are out during the day, and leads to significantly shorter heating-up times and resulting energy-savings.
The 2.5 cm thick granulated foamed glass insulating panel is precisely the right product if
a more traditional interior insulation solution is called for.
A further use of the energy-saving interior wall system is for the remediation of walls affected by mould: KlimaVlies is ideal for smaller areas, while climate panels are perfect for larger areas of mould. Both products raise the surface temperature of the walls in critical living areas, like bedrooms and guest toilets that are only heated intermittently, or in rooms with higher levels of air humidity, like bathrooms and kitchens. KlimaTec can prevent or inhibit the formation of mould. Where remediation is needed, the affected plaster should be removed and then renewed. The Erfurt KlimaTec range provides permeable DP 6 insulating plaster for this job, which has been developed with a special thermal insulating effect for areas of plaster in need of refurbishment.
The KlimaTec range is rounded off by system adhesives SR 2, SR 4 and SR6 that can be selected depending on the condition of the sub-surface and the type of product.
