The introduction of the "Oeko-Tex Standard 100" seal enables Erfurt to communicate the healthy living benefits of its textured non-woven wallpaper more clearly than ever to end users. The standard that was developed in the 1990's with regard to the harmless quality of textiles, both to humans and the environment, is intended to provide orientation and safety in the purchase of modern textile products. This quality mark certifies that Erfurt products are verifiably free of allergenic and carcinogenic substances, as well as substances suspected of being carcinogenic. Unlike the majority of competitive products, textured non-woven wall coverings from the Wuppertal-based company are free of PVC, softeners hazardous to health, vinyl or similar foamed plastics.
Demanded by consumers, developed for consumers – For many years the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 has been a uniform safety standard for companies in the textile and clothing industry. The test seal is based on a practical assessment of possible harmful substances in textile products and has established itself over many years as a reliable product label for consumers who consciously aim to buy textiles which are harmless to health. This is also increasingly becoming the case in the choice of household textiles and wall coverings. "As the globally best-known and most widespread text certificate for textiles that have been tested for harmful substances, the "Confidence in Textiles" label superbly underpins our traditional commitment to healthy living," states Holger Manske, Director of Marketing and Sales at Erfurt. With over 95,000 certifications worldwide, around 1,700 of which are in Germany, textured non-woven wallpapers from Erfurt are in the best company.
In contrast, compared with the competition, Erfurt is virtually alone in terms of its healthy living benefits: "The majority of textured non-woven wallpapers are foamed using PVC, vinyl or similar plastics and some contain softeners that are harmful to health. This is not the case with our non-woven products, which are made from a particularly high-grade, breathable combination of cellulose and textile fibres and the texture is produced using a hot-embossing process," Mr. Manske continues. In addition to its recently awarded Oeko-Tex Standard 100 seal, Erfurt further underlines its commitment to healthy-living wall coverings with the TÜV North Allergy seal both for Erfurt woodchip, as well as for Erfurt Ecovlies.
The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 was initially launched in the textile and clothing sector in 1992 and the first companies to be certified included German, Austrian and Swiss manufacturers of underwear, baby clothing and household textiles. With its "Confidence in Textiles" label, the standard has now developed into the globally best-known uniform test and certification system, whose tests are stipulated by an internationally binding test catalogue.
